Corrosion is a constant and indiscriminate enemy of industrial components, especially when they are packaged for storage and transportation. Traditional anti-corrosion methods have proved messy, costly and can be hazardous to personnel and the environment. Tribotec AB in Gothenburg, a subsidiary of Indutrade since 2006, has the solution to these problems.
Greater environmental awareness is driving demand
“With a vision to be the first choice in environmentally friendly corrosion protection, Tribotec has been selling knowledge and products to Nordic customers for 30 years. As well as being at the forefront of efforts to reduce our own environmental impact, we are focused on providing customers with the best possible technology and products from an environmental perspective. We have noted how demand for environmentally friendly corrosion protection has increased in recent years, in pace with the heightened environmental awareness of industry players,” says Joakim Dock, CEO of Tribotec.
One of Tribotec’s offerings is a multi-metal corrosion prevention system based on VpCI technology (Vapor Phase Corrosion Inhibitor). The technology has been developed by US company Cortec, a global leader in the development of biodegradable products for corrosion protection. Cortec demands high standards from its distributors. Thus, Tribotec’s system for environmentally friendly corrosion-protection solutions meets Cortec’s requirement specifications. Today, Tribotec is one of the world’s five largest distributors of Cortec’s environmentally friendly corrosion-protection products for packaging, coating and detergents.
Tribotec’s largest product based on Cortec’s technology is an anti-corrosion bag for packaging applications. Materials are sealed in the bag to prevent corrosive attack. Most of these bags are sold to customers who transport products shipped by container. Here the key is simply to “stop time,” particularly when transporting between different climate zones.
Training develops knowledge and insight
“We also run an Anti-Corrosion School for our customers. The aim is to raise awareness of the benefits of anti-corrosion packaging, such as lower overall costs, compared with the use of chemicals and fats. More than 100 people have taken part in our courses over the past five years,” says Joakim.
Tribotec employees undergo continuous training with the company’s suppliers, including Cortec. They also receive training in environmental issues in order to understand the environmental consequences of their actions, and to take responsibility for the environmental impact of their work.
Tribotec has all of the environmental and quality management system standards required by the market, including ISO 14001 and ISO 9001.
